After a few days in Marrakech, you’re likely to suffer from a serious case of tagine, couscous, and pouf-cushion overload. It happens to the best of us. But before you find yourself seeking out the nearest Golden Arches — never mind how inviting those McBaguette posters look — direct your taxi driver to Kechmara instead.

This former mechanic’s garage was reclaimed by a pair of inventive brothers, who’ve transformed it into a stylish, modern space: stark white walls, Scandinavian furniture (are those sculptural Saarinen chairs?), chrome fixtures, and a rotating array of artwork (when we stopped by, they were displaying a series of cartoon mash-ups starring Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, and Woody Woodpecker, to name a few). The food served up by the attractive waitstaff is global — an all-American burger, a chicken shawarma sandwich (though shawarma purists will insist this is merely a very tasty chicken wrap), and even a decent selection of tapas and drinks. Stop by for a light lunch, but in the evenings, you may want to linger for awhile: a DJ spins, and there’s live music several nights a week. Reward yourself for refraining from spiraling into a Big Mac-induced stupor with a cocktail at the roof terrace bar. You’ve earned it.
