The Greek Fisherman is located in the prime spot for restaurants at the V&A Waterfront which means it overlooks the harbour and is full of life and atmosphere. This upmarket Greek seafood restaurant has been around for years and is known for its sophisticated dishes and upper class clientele. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re willing to spend quite a bit more than usual on a fantastic meal with a wonderful view. It’s been voted as one of the top restaurants in Cape Town and also offers sushi, cocktails and some wonderful desserts.
To begin the meal, I ordered Feta Pastry Roll which consisted of feta cheese with fresh dill, wrapped in phyllo pastry and baked until crisp. I got three good sized rolls that were light, crispy and full of flavour. I love having cheese as a starter and these feta rolls are now on my list as one of my favourites. I also ordered the Grilled Portuguese Sardines with salt, lemon and EVO. My three decent sized sardines were very tasty and the perfect Mediterranean seafood dish to order at a great restaurant like Greek Fishman.
For dessert, I enjoyed the Baklava and Ice Cream which is a traditional Greek dessert with phyllo pastry, honey and nuts. It was really tasty, sweet and perfect to enjoy on a warm, summer’s day while watching the busy culture of the V&A Waterfront.
The Greek Fishman also have a kids menu and some wonderful lunch specials that will make it worth your while enjoying a meal at this A class V&A Waterfront restaurant. You may even spot a few celebrities there as the staff will be willing to tell you all about it!

The Greek Fisherman has such a great location — it’s a tourists dream, as it’s right on the waterfront and has a wonderful view of both the harbour and Table Mountain. There is always a crowd of people coming in and out.
The Greek Fisherman is part of a long strip of restaurants, and after walking up and down a few times and looking at the different menus on display we finally settled in at this place. My biggest problem with this section of the Waterfront is that you get hassled quite a lot, with waiters and managers trying to get you to come into their restaurant. I don’t know why they do this — it’s not as if they are short on customers. I had never really wanted to come here because the last time the manager (or waiter, or owner, I’m not sure) was very rude to us when we chose to go somewhere else. But anyway, we decided to give them another try.
We decided to sit inside. The outside is gorgeous and definitely the best place to sit, but it was a bit windy and I was wearing a dress so we sat inside. Our waiter was lovely.
We had some wine and a bottle of water (heads up, don’t get bottled water, it’s very expensive. Next time I’ll be sure to ask for a glass instead). We chose the feta and avocado salad which was absolutely delicious and then we chose the sushi. The salmon roses were delicious and I also really enjoyed the Philadelphia rolls. Overall we had a great meal and had a good time. I found the place to be very expensive but it is the waterfront after all, so this wasn’t a big surprise.
