Despite being on busy main road I have passed this place without seeing it for almost a year. Situated upstairs in Rondebosch Centre it’s a great little retreat from a rather hectic part of the Southern Suburbs. Down South offers South American delights such as fried chicken and Jambalya. I went at quite a strange time as I wanted to pick up take away and the place was buzzing, so I’d love to see what it’s like in the evenings at normal dinner time. They offer great booth seating options, a bar, and the option of sitting outside overlooking Main Road.
I chose the House Salad which came with a selection of mixed greens, tomato, feta cheese, red onion, cucumber and a Greek dressing. With that I chose the Bacon, Avocado and Feta Quesadillas, which came with two flour tortillas stuffed, grilled and served with guacamole, Pico De Gallo, corn and pine salsa. I joked that the quesadillas were magic quesadillas because they just seemed like they never came to an end. Each time I picked up one to eat there would be another one underneath. Great value for money at only R65 and I even had some to keep aside for the next day, which is always a bonus. It was delicious and all you want from a quesadilla. Some of the other quesadilla options were Cheese, meat, Pulled Pork, Chilli Beef n Beans, Vegetable and Jamaican Jerk Chicken.
Other menu options include a good breakfast selection, both open and toasted sandwich options, starters, tacos, burritos and Mexican pizzas, steaks, seafood, burgers, desserts and a big drinks selection. So pretty much something for everyone. I’d like to go back and try the Chocolate Tortilla Dessert, which is smothered with cinnamon, sugar, spices and drizzled with a caramel, peanut butter and chocolate sauce. Wow.
