The Creamery definitely doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the creamiest ice cream in town. Besides serving a range of great homemade flavours like the flavour of the month which was birthday cake, they also serve waffles and dessert that are the best ways to enjoy their delicious ice cream.

I popped by the Newlands store just after 9pm on a Friday evening and was surprised to see it was so busy. There was a great atmosphere in the small shop with people seated and standing outside enjoying their ice cream creations.

I had to try their flavour of the month so I got a scoop of birthday cake and was amazed at the sweetness and depth of flavour in their ice cream. I also tried the salted caramel and although it was rather subtle, it definitely left me wanting more.

Then I tried the S’more as I was very intrigued after seeing it on the menu. I was torn between that and the waffles, because the whole restaurant smelt of toasty warm freshly made waffles, but there’s always next time. The S’more was a giant toasted marshmallow, graham cracker, hot chocolate sauce and your choice of ice cream, I chose 65% chocolate. This was indeed an amazing dessert that was just what I needed after a long week. I must admit, after all that ice cream I did feel a little sick the next day, so remember, it’s quality so limit your quantity, especially if you’re lactose-sensitive! I can’t wait to see what next month’s flavour of the month is!

With branches in Salt River and Newlands, this late night ice cream café is every ice cream lover’s dream. The Creamery closes at 11pm on weekends and 6pm on weekdays so it’s the perfect late-night weekend spot when you’re craving something cold, creamy and smile-inducing.
