I’d been wanting to go to Cocoa Wah Wah ever since I saw the name. It’s a fun word to say. I’m not sure why it took me so long to eventually go check it out but I’m glad I did.
Cocoa Wah Wah is situated on the very busy main road in Rondebosch, and if you sit outside you will get a lot of noise from the traffic. The place was bustling when we arrived and I definitely felt like one of the oldest people there. It seems to be incredibly popular amongst all the students from UCT and I picked up mostly American accents around me. There were also a lot of people sitting inside by themselves with their laptop and a couple of cyclists who had stopped for lunch.
It’s definitely popular for a reason. The menu is great. I really battled to decide what to have but in the end settled for scrambled eggs and hummus on home-style brown bread. There was the choice of single or double and I chose single. I definitely regretted it as single is quite small. I ordered a bowl of roast vegetables to go with though which was a nice addition. My husband ordered the peri peri chicken and feta wrap with vegetables on the side. He said it was excellent. I was very impressed with the food and would love to go back to try some more out.
My only complaint was that when we tried to pay at the end they said their credit card machine was broken and told me to go to the front desk. I did this but waited quite a while for someone to help me. When the manager eventually arrived she was quite rude and told me I had to go find an ATM to draw money. I wouldn’t have minded if they had told me about their broken machine at the start or were at least somehow apologetic. Other than the manager I found the rest of the staff to be lovely and I will still go back for the food!
