Unfortunately I did not eat here, but decided to go instead for a cup of coffee after seeing it in a list of top 20 coffee shops to visit in Cape Town. Plates of food came past us which looked and smelled delicious so I’ll have to go back again.
However, commenting purely on the coffee and the venue I have to say that I loved this little place. Situated in the leafy suburb of Harfield Village, it’s a very cute and a whole lot of fun. An eclectic mix of antiques is arranged throughout the shop, and I don’t think my husband and I said two words to each other because we were constantly looking around.
I’ve heard both good and bad comments regarding Cafeen, with a few people unfortunately saying the service wasn’t up to standards. We didn’t seem to have a problem the day we went, but then again it was before the lunch time crowd and we also only ordered coffee. I enjoyed the coffee but I didn’t love it. I did notice a very interesting addition to the menu called ‘Steamers’ for only R20. The menu described it as steamed milk enhanced with Monin Gourmet extracts, choosing from either vanilla, roasted hazelnut, gingerbread, crème brulee or cinnamon bun steamer. Sounds curious enough for me to go back and try.
The place, though, is very charming and it definitely has the feel of a place you want to linger at over a good few coffees and cakes.
