My friend invited us to Buena Vista for his birthday party. I had never been before, though I had driven by it quite often. It’s in Green Point but off the main road, so it’s not a place I generally remember when I think of that area.
The outside has a huge graffiti painting and it has a very cool look to it. The outside is just as cool, very authentic looking and I immediately liked it.
We found a nice table and we all ordered some drinks, mostly cocktails for the table. Being a Mexican restaurant there is a big selection of cocktail jugs at hand.
For the mains most people ordered the lamb and feta nachos, which looked amazing. It came with lots of toppings, which I always like. I went for the beef Bourguignon which was beef marinated in red wine, bacon, mushrooms and onions, served in a traditional potije pot with Cuban flavoured rice and vegetables. The potjie pot was so cute and made the plate look very appealing. It was delicious and the meat was very tender. It wasn’t a huge amount, but it was one of the cheapest meals, so I’m not surprised. But the portion was sufficient and I would definitely recommend it.
The place was very quiet during our party — which is a pity because it seems like it should be the type of place with loud music and a busy vibe. Maybe it was because we went on a Sunday. Apparently they do salsa evenings some nights, so I’m assuming the place does get a little busier. I’d definitely like to go back another night to try again.
