In the grand tradition of casino restaurants, Boston BBQ lays on an extensive all-you-can-eat buffet/smorgasbord for the busy gambler who is anxious to eat and run back to the slot machines.

Though I would not call the food high-quality, it is not terrible either, and definitely fulfills its mission: to fill you up cheaply and quickly. As soon as you are seated you’re off and running to the buffet counters, making your way through the continents, from India to Africa to Europe. There are 140 dishes to choose from (not all on the same day, necessarily) — indeed Boston BBQ claims to have the largest buffet in the Southern hemisphere.

While I was not able to independently verify that factoid, I was able to test out the roast beef (a little overdone), the mac & cheese (a little bland) and the boerewors (very juicy). I didn’t make it to the Chinese and Indian sections, but did try out the salad bar, which was overflowing with multiple cold concoctions. The desserts were so-so, with the chocolate mousse being a standout.

Service is swift and attentive, and the layout is conducive to large groups. Basically, you wouldn’t go here for a fine dining experience (there is another restaurant within the casino which fills that niche), but rather to just gorge, enjoy the variety, and fuel up for the next session of craps or slots.
