If you’re looking for Kenilworth’s secret Italian spot, you’ve come to the right place! Borruso’s opened 20 years ago and has become a local favourite for lovers of authentic, delicious Italian cuisine. They don’t take bookings so get there early, or go later to avoid the rush. If you do end up waiting, you can enjoy a glass of wine and the great atmosphere in the outside courtyard while you wait for your table. For starters, Borruso’s serves a selection of focaccia, a thin Italian pizza bread with garlic. Toppings include blue cheese and fig, caramelized onions and feta or plain garlic. I opted for the plain garlic focaccia as Borruso’s are known for their big portions and I wanted to save room for mains. I’d definitely recommend getting a focaccia to share as it’s a great way to start your meal. Borruso’s great selection of pastas and pizza makes it difficult to decide on which to order. As a real pizza fan, I ordered the No Name Brand pizza with spinach, garlic, bacon and feta. I also ordered extra avocado as I love avo on was totally in the mood for it. When my pizza arrived, I couldn’t wait to tuck in. Tons of extra avo on a big, crispy authentic pizza! If you’re in the mood for something sweet, their dessert menu won’t disappoint: they have everything from cheesecake to brownies, to banana flambé, which I had to try. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised when my dessert was brought to the table and set alight. A great theatrical end to a lovely meal! It tasted great too. If you love sweet and unique desserts, the banana flambé is a must-have. Their fresh ingredients and generous portions (as well as toppings) make for great Italian comfort food. Borruso’s offer tasty meals in a homely setting that will have you wanting to come back before you’ve even finished your food.
