All coffee lovers in Cape Town will know of the Bootlegger Coffee Company, situated in the busy Sea Point area, and right on track with the latest trends. Their style is simple and bold, their food is fresh, their beers are local and their coffees are brewed to perfection.

I never even thought to book the day I went, and my plan was to get a group of friends together to enjoy some good coffee and a good chat. When we arrived, however, we found a place that was booming, with people spewing outside in order to make space. Uh oh. We were just about to walk out when one of the waiters saw us and ushered us in. One table was just about to leave and we were able to just make enough space for the six of us. Lucky, because we ended up having such a good time and the friendly waiters definitely helped to make the great vibe.

I ordered a cortado, which is very similar to a cappuccino or a flat white, only it has less milk, which suits me perfectly. It’s like a bit of heaven in a cup. It’s sadly a little on the small size (which is the correct way) but that just meant I had to order a second, which I gladly did.

I wasn’t planning on eating that day, but all my friends started ordering food and I got major food envy. I decided to order something small and simple and ended up choosing sliced avocado on rye, which was very reasonably priced and I knew would satisfy my slight hunger. My food arrived so quickly, despite the place being busy and I was surprised at how generous they had been with my avocado. A simple meal and yet somehow they managed to get it just right for me.

I would also recommend buying their beans and using it in your machine at home, it’s delicious and tastes amazing even if you’re not a professional.
