I’m one of those coffee people, the ones that need at least two cups a day in order to survive. Cape Town, luckily, is full of incredible coffee shops and each year the standard goes up. I’ve been spoilt for choice since being here which unfortunately has made me rather picky when it comes to my coffee. I’ve even become the type that grinds my own beans in the morning. So if I don’t like a coffee, I’ll say so.
Luckily, Bean There gets the nod from me. I knew it would though, because it always gets a mention on those ‘top coffee spots’ reviews that people are always doing. So I knew before even going that I was in for a treat. They offer small eats and treats such as cookies, croissants, brownies, carrot cakes and sandwiches for those that need a nibble. But the truth is that most people are there for one thing and one thing only: the coffee.
The shop itself is quite nice. Situated in the city, but a little away from the hustle and bustle, I found it easy to find parking (which is a major positive here). The shop is very artsy and when I went they had some cool yellow seating on the sidewalk outside, which was very eye catching. I sat inside, and ordered a cappuccino, which was just as delicious as I had expected.
Available in both Cape Town and Johannesburg they also offer Coffee Cupping Evenings where you can go and learn more about the coffee you are drinking and how to tell a good cup from a bad cup. I haven’t been to one of those yet but something tells me these guys know what they are doing.
