Basic Bistro is a great little, bistro in the heart of Stellenbosch. In a college town, it’s hard to find a good food place that does upmarket food for a reasonable price, but Basic Bistro is just that! They’ve got a funky rustic vibe going for them and are always busy over the weekends. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a great selection of wines and specials. They’re open until 10PM Monday to Sunday and serve food that truly is worth writing home about!

For starters, I ordered the Caprese Salad which arrived as a big portion of sliced tomatoes topped with thick chunks of mozzarella and basil leafs. Although this was a simple starter, it was absolutely delicious! The ingredients were fresh and you could taste the quality with every bite. What a perfect dish for summer and great to share with the table.

For mains, I ordered one of Basic Bistro’s Best Sellers, the Dukkah Chicken Pasta. A light blue cheese and cream sauce with sprinkled dukkah and rocket over some perfectly cooked penne pasta – what a treat! The portion was reasonable and the taste factor was out of this world. You can see why this is one of their best sellers and it’s well-priced too.

I finished my meal with Chocolate Brownie Cake with hot chocolate sauce and ice cream. Hmm, was this cake moist and succulent! A big slice of thick chocolate brownie cake is exactly what you want when you’ve got a sweet tooth so this cake is perfect as a dessert or with coffee.

All in all, Basic Bistro is definitely somewhere to check out when you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed with their great selection of Italian melted sandwiches, burgers, best sellers and sweet tooth satisfiers. I would also recommended booking over the weekend as it can get very busy.
