Bardelli’s Kenilworth is known for its pizza in the Southern Suburbs, so I thought I’d visit the restaurant on a Friday night and see just how great the food is for myself. I only made a booking about an hour before I wanted to go and they were kind enough to find me a table and were very polite over the phone. There is also a Bardelli’s restaurant in Kloof Street that’s very popular too so I wanted to see how the Kenilworth branch compares. Bardelli’s Kenilworth looks quaint and intimate from the outside and even when you visit the restaurant, you don’t realize just how big it actually is. They have a small patio area where you can enjoy a meal and watch the traffic go by, as well as a few romantic inside rooms and their most popular outside smoking area at the back that’s undercover and is definitely where all the atmosphere is.

For starters, I ordered the Garlic, Feta and Herb Focaccia with Caramelized Onions. Although the toppings were minimal, the focaccia base was thin, crispy and flaky and a great way to start a meal. Very tasty and fragrant and get to share with a table or enjoy alone. It was a little bit dry and more toppings would’ve been better but all in all, I would order this again.

For mains, I decided to try Bardelli’s pasta and ordered the Lasange di Carne with layers of quality fillet steak, onions, blue cheese sauce and topped with a touch of creamy napoletana sauce. It was piping hot when it arrived but when I tucked into the saucy, meaty dish, I was in heaven. What a beautiful sauce with so much tender steak to! Usually a dish like this will have a few pieces of steak and mostly sauce and pasta, but Bardelli’s aren’t shy to add tons of quality ingredients to their pasta dishes. Delicious! I would recommend Bardelli’s to anyone looking for a great Italian meal with great service and a lovely atmosphere in Kenilworth.
