Asara Wine Farm and Hotel has a few restaurant on the property so when I was there visiting the farm over a weekend in summer, I decided to try out Sansibar, one of their four dining options. Sansibar is a whiskey and cocktail bar that some great food to enjoy with your drinks in the luxurious, upmarket lounge. The kitchen is open from noon till 9PM and is a great place to spend some time while staying at the hotel or after an afternoon of wine tasting.
For starters, I ordered the Caesar Salad with cos lettuce, traditional Caesar dressing infused with anchovies, crispy bacon, parmesan cheese and crontons. You can also choose to add grilled chicken strips to this dish. It was very tasty and fresh with wonderful ingredients. The Caesar dressing really made the salad a meal and I would highly recommend this as a starter or main meal.
For mains, I ordered the Pea and Mint Risotto with Parmesan Crisps. It came with a side salad and was very good. The consistency was just right and although it was a bit salty and I would have it again, it was a great vegetarian option made well. All the ingredients used at Asara are always fresh and incredibly tasty. You can taste the difference with every dish and I love the simplicity that creates some amazing flavours in the inventive dishes that offer here. If you’re planning a trip to Asara, make sure to schedule time for a visit to Sansibar where you can experience a wide variety of whiskeys, delicious cocktails and some wonderful food!
