For those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, whether in Johannesburg or Cape Town, The Cascades...

For those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, whether in Johannesburg or Cape Town, The Cascades Hotel in the Sun City resort is a gem that provides hospitality and luxury amongst the waterfalls and calming pools which trickle throughout the property.

The foyer of the hotel is open and welcoming; with an air of old-school charm transmitted through the décor and the good service from polite and friendly staff. The gorgeous bar on the terrace may persuade you to sit and admire the incredible waterfall and pool views while sipping a cocktail or savouring a coffee, before making your way up to the room. Modern and sophisticated, complete with a coffee machine that makes a mean brew, the rooms are very comfortable and have all of the amenities that one would expect from a five star establishment. Views from the windows are sublime, and you may even want to book a room with a balcony to truly enjoy the surroundings which become postcard-worthy any time the sun sets or rises.

One would be forgiven for thinking that they have travelled further than a mere two-hour drive from Johannesburg, but that commute is worth undertaking if only for the exquisite full English buffet breakfast (complete with omelette station) that guests enjoy each morning at The Peninsula, where buffet and a la carte dining is a sumptuous experience on the ground floor level.

The hotel is built around pristine pools, some of which are heated, while loungers are set amongst sand to simulate a seaside resort vibe. Cocktails, or mocktails for those with an aversion to alcohol, are a must, as the Luma Bar and Lounge serves up light meals and fantastic drinks to quench and keep the heat at bay. Guests will also find a new Mediterranean restaurant, Bocado, offering more cuisine options within a short walk of the hotel through beautiful tropical gardens.

Visitors staying at the Cascades qualify for free entrance to the Valley of the Waves, a hugely popular wave pool and man-made beach complete with waterslides and a lazy river. In addition, those visiting Sun City should explore and make use of the resort’s vast array of facilities, eateries and entertainment options, which include casinos, a spa and a world-class 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player. There is something for everyone at South Africa’s premier resort destination.
