This posh Hyatt Regency-branded hotel is part of an upscale 316-acre residential and golf development that fronts the revered surfer beach at Herold’s Bay, a scenically stunning strip of golden sand and turquoise water backed by craggy mountains that appear to tumble into the sea. Beyond its beachside locale, the five-star property, located halfway down the Garden Route and a five minute drive from the George airport, caters to business and leisure travelers with equal ease.

The 100 rooms and suites come in varying shapes and sizes, and are located in different buildings spread across the sprawling grounds. All are spacious and modern with trendy décor, comfortable beds, and decent linen. Try to get upgraded to the club floor, where the private lounge serves complimentary evening cocktails and canapés every evening, along with a continental breakfast in the morning. The dedicated concierge is also helpful. The property features multiple restaurants and swimming pools, including one with a wading area for the kids, and a delightful spa that uses local treatments to heal and refresh. The hotel has a dedicated conference center and is used to working with large groups. If you are planning a group event here, you can ask to book rooms that are directly linked to the conference center.

The resort is also home to South Africa’s first Ernie Els’ designed championship golf course, and shares its property with the Oubaai Golf Estate. Beyond golfing, there is plenty more to do in the great outdoors around here, from surfing the Herold’s Bay break, to chilling on the picturesque beach, or hiking the Oubaai Heritage Trail. Other activities include dolphin and whale watching from the deck (or on a tour), and trips to nearby vineyards.
