Classic French style is intertwined with splashes of bright purple and modern touches to create Le Quartier Francais, a unique boutique hotel on a quiet street in Franschoek. Rooms outfitted with retro wood-burning fireplaces and eclectic spins on patterns from Provence are a welcome reprieve from the opulence and extravagance of the wider region. Discreetly tucked away within an explosive garden off the Main Street, there are few better locations from which to explore this impossibly charming town.

Each enchanting suite faces out onto rose filled gardens and rocky paths. Families are well catered to in the sprawling house suite, which comes equipped with a private pool and a loft. Couples may prefer the intimacy of the auberge rooms, with their expansive walk in showers, plush couches and slip in baths.

While glasses of chardonnay poolside may keep you perfectly content for days, LQF also features a spa for an extra tier of indulgence. The outdoor street side Lounge Bar is also well worth a visit, in order to sample artisanal cocktails with a side of sensational people watching. This is of course, assuming you have already fit in sampling countless vintages at neighboring vineyards, and strolling the gallery-lined streets of the downtown.

Of course, this Relais Chateaux rose to international fame in large part because of its restaurant – the Tasting Room. Duck beneath the overgrown vines and step through a delicate wrought iron gate and you will find yourself on the edge of one of South Africa’s most coveted restaurants. Here, award-winning Chef Margot Janse takes guests on a culinary adventure through her eight-course surprise tasting menu. Paired with the region’s most prized wines, LQF is as much a gastronomic journey as it is an experience in understated luxury. Drift away into this creative French paradise, allowing each and every one of your five senses to be simply delighted.
