It is very yellow. Not a subtle soft baby yellow or a deep cream. Yellow. Lemon peel, gallbladder, cyber yellow. With masses of orange creeper and a lemon tree at the reception, Casa Piccolo in Namibia’s capital is a cheerful, welcoming place. Easy to find and located on the ‘airport side’ of the city, Casa Piccolo offers simple, no-nonsense accommodation at a very reasonable price.
Casa Piccolo is an E-shaped guesthouse with two grass courtyards, one with a small black pool, loungers and umbrellas. Not preoccupied with too much decoration, rooms are almost Spartan, with simple prints of Namibian landscapes on the walls. There are 16 rooms, some triples, family units (with cot) and some rooms suitable for mobility-impaired guests.
Fitted with good beds (double or singles), all rooms have en-suite bathrooms (showers only), while small touches make the rooms more welcoming: toiletries, warm water bottle and a tea/coffee tray. It is not a romantic nor cozy place, but functional, clean and professional, yes.
Logistically this B&B offers a lot: safe parking even for large vehicles and trailers, storage of extra luggage and easy walking access to banks, restaurants and shops, but a short drive to the city centre. There is free wi-fi, a direct line telephone, and a TV in each room (three channels).
In typical German tradition, the breakfast buffet consists of a wide selection of cold meats, cheese and breads. Home-made jam and fresh fruit add to the menu. A hot breakfast can be ordered as well as good coffee and an assortment of teas. Run by a German couple, Casa Piccolo is a tight ship, offering extras such as a laundry service and transfers from the airport some 30 minutes away.
Casa Piccolo is more a stop-over B&B than a destination guesthouse and fulfills this role perfectly. It would suit self-drive guests, families and business travelers.
