The rooms here are more like apartments than suites, each coming with a well-equipped kitchen and many with a spacious dining area. It’s an excellent mid-range option, ideal for groups or families, especially since kids under 12 stay for free. Suites come in a variety of sizes, ranging from a studio to a three-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. All have cable TV and air-con; most have balconies.
The two swimming pools aren’t quite large enough to cater to everyone staying at the complex, but then you’re unlikely to be spending too much time here during the day anyway. The hotel is well-positioned for city sightseeing and a short drive from the lower cableway station, from where the rotating cable car swoops visitors to the top of Table Mountain. The hotel is also close to the District Six Museum, one of Cape Town’s best. There’s a free shuttle service to and from the airport, which can also be used to get to some of the city’s attractions if you’re not planning to rent a car.
The city’s restaurants and bars are all a drive away, but there is a pub on-site which can get pretty lively. There are also braai (barbeque) facilities if you fancy some al fresco dining, South African style. The buffet breakfast has an excellent selection of seasonal fresh fruit as well as the usual pastries, cereals and cooked offerings, and if you do opt to lounge around at the hotel during the day, the design-your-own pizza place alongside the swimming pool is a nice lunch option.
When booking, try to request a suite with a view of Table Mountain or ask that you be placed away from any large parties – the hotel can get noisy when big groups descend on the bar and continue the revelry back in their rooms.
