Reach for the skies and climb to the summit of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain (and the highest point in Africa) with On The Go Tours from R47590 (US$3428) per person.
Details: Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport and overnight at Marangu the night before your climb. On day two drive to the Rongai trailhead, then spend five days ascending the north side of the mountain via Rongai, Kikelewa, Mawenzi Tarn, and Kibo camps until you reach the summit. On day six descend back to Marangu via Horomobo camp and overnight there before ending on day seven at Marangu. Depart on day eight.
Rongai trailhead is on the Kenyan border on the northern side of the mountain. Its position in the rain shadow of Kili means it has a completely different landscape from the other routes and is drier and more open, allowing for better views. It is a beautiful route, with few climbers and a very gentle ascent, making it an ideal route to take.
