The Best Places To Go For Dessert In Cape Town

The world-famous food scene in Cape Town includes some mind-bogglingly good dessert spots. Whether you’re looking for a sweet treat after a meal, while on the go, or as a main course, there are dozens of tantalizing options. Here are the best places to go for dessert in Cape Town.

Nobu

We’ll start off with a restaurant that isn’t exactly known for traditional South African fare. Master chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa’s first eatery in Africa features delicious Japanese-influenced desserts. Some of the best things on the menu include a passion fruit brûlée with sake jelly, coconut sorbet and coconut tuille, and the chocolate bento box.

La Colombe

This restaurant offers incredible views of the Constantia valley, Hout Bay, and False Bay, but what you really want to go here for is the desserts. They specialize in delicious German apple cake with sous vide apples, poached walnuts and caramelized apple puree. You might not be able to eat your mom’s version after this.

The Greenhouse at Cellars-Hohenort

Executive chef Peter Tempelhoff has turned this restaurant into another Constantia standout. Go for the Camembert cheesecake with roast pineapple ice cream served with a pine nut biscotti.

For a quick nibble, stop in at Emporio Leone at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and grab some amazing cakes and desserts to go, or just hang out in their store while devouring the chocolate goodies. This little boutique specializes in delicious macaroons and out-of-this-world cakes.

Bistrot Bizerca

This French restaurant offers a small bistro menu with only six starters, a few mains, and fabulous desserts. One of the best desserts on the menu is a chocolate lover’s dream — the Valhrona chocolate pudding with crème brûlée.

The Creamery

You can’t have a dessert roundup without ice cream, and The Creamery is famous for it. Some of the fantastic specialty flavors include blackberry buttermilk, granadilla chocolate chip, and a Cape Town favorite, Rosetta roastery coffee.

The Roundhouse

The Roundhouse takes a seasonal approach to its food, so you have to check the website to know what it’s serving before you book. However, they specialize in amazing souffles such as the forest blackberry souffle with buffalo yoghurt sorbet.

Buitenverwachting Winery

Yet another excellent choice in Constantia (yes the area is packed with great dining options) is the Buitenverwachting Winery. The restaurant at the winery features artistic designs like a decadent plate of chocolates with raspberry sauce and cream.

Cafe Paradiso

When Capetonians want a beautiful setting to dine in set on the slopes of Table Mountain (when don’t they?), many head to Cafe Paradiso. All of the cafe’s baked goods are made with farmhouse butter and include delicious crumbles, chocolate ganache brownies and an excellent tiramisu.

If baked goods are what you’re after, and you’re up for an early dessert … then head straight for Mango Ginger. This shop uses only organic flour and fresh produce to create its incredible pastries. Some of the specialties include an apple and apricot almond nut crumble, and for people who are gluten free, a delicious chocolate ginger cake.

Chefs Warehouse Canteen

Located on the hipster highway of Bree Street, this fun tapas spot is an excellent choice if you’re in the area. In addition to the tapas, the chefs also dish out amazing dessert such as a chocolate and hazelnut fondant with orange ice cream, and a variety of chocolate bonbons.
