Even if you are the most insecure person you know, try to put out a confident demeanor when you are traveling in Africa.
This means several things: don’t walk around in circles, look up at buildings, or fiddle around with a map in public. You’ll easily be pegged as a vulnerable tourist.
If you have to use a map when you’re out, try to do it inside a restaurant or cafe.
And before you head out of your hotel, try to plan out a route of exactly where you are going.
Dressing the part, standing up straight, using strong body language and speaking up all go along way in giving off the appearance of confidence.
So even if you are a little uneasy inside, everybody else won’t suspect a thing!
