15 Real Struggles Left Handed People Have

Left handed people are a rare breed representing only 10% of the global population. This small percentage of people face a whole lot of problems that only they have to deal with. Here are a few of some of the ridiculous things lefties deal with all the time!

1. Scissors Are Made For Right Handed People

Only lefties will understand how useless scissors are because most of them are made for right handed people. Try cutting something and your hand does not in fit into the scissors. Although there are some specialized scissors, good luck if you actually had them in class.

2. The Dreaded Can Opener

Try opening a can with a can opener with your left hand. Oh you can’t do it, well welcome to a lefties life! I guess that’s why those electric openers were invented.

3. Spiral Notebooks Hurt

All us lefties do is fight with spiral notebooks. As we try to write the spiral only gets in the way of our hand and it begins a long battle with a spiral. And usually the spiral gets the better of us.

4. The Questions We Get

Lefties get loads of questions when we start writing with our ‘”wrong” hand with the obvious one being “are you left handed?” A few other common ones include “did you know my aunty is left handed”, “are you creative” and “how do you write like that?” It’s just how we write, OK!

5. Swiping Our Cards

Why don’t the manufactures of card machines just put the card swiping bit on top! We spend an extra minute at the grocery store till just having to figure out how to awkwardly use the machine with our dominant hand.

6. Hockey Sticks Are The Wrong Way

It takes running  around to various sporting stores to find the one hockey stick in the country that is not only the right size for your height, but also made for lefties. It’s a real challenge and you could be searching for days.

7. Knowing That Celebrities Are Left Too

They may be famous for being rich, have no talent, or be a one hit wonder, but if they’re left handed they are super stars to every lefty (luckily most left celebs are pretty talented). We love Robert De Niro, Angelina Jolie, Prince William, Barack Obama and Lady Gaga.

8. Constantly Putting Your Left Hand Forward To Shake Hands

That awkward moment you go in for the hand shake with your left hand and realise that you’ve gone in with your left hand instead of right. Just another day in a lefties life.

9. Playing Guitar

Most guitars are stringed for right handed people and most guitar teachers are righties too. But don’t worry, lefties are super smart and will pick up the chords no matter what hand our teachers are. A few awesome musicians that play left are Paul Simon, B.B King and Barry Gibb.

10. Buttons Just Don’t Work

Right handed people have it easy when it comes to buttoning up their shirts, pants, skirts or blouses. So until we find a left handed button we will always take an extra few minutes to get ready.

11. Three Ring Binders Need To Be Destroyed

How are left handed people meant to fit their arms through the gap between the binders? Well, we just have to and then weirdly write our way through the pain.

12. There Is Always Ink On Our Hands

Not because we are artists trying to make some money off our lush ink works, but because our hand smudges the ink from our own writing! It’s hard for us not to smudge our own hand writing.

13. Numbers On A Keyboard

Most lefties only use the numbers on top the keyboard because we are left and the numbers on the right are made for right handed people. Yes, we got an alternative here, but its still not made for us lefties.

14. Baseball Mitts For Lefties

Another almost impossible thing to find is a baseball mitt. Remember when you tried out for your school’s softball/baseball team and the coach had to send the assistant coach to find a mitt just for you? Well, you weren’t the only one.

15. Sitting On The End Of Every Table

Lefties are the most considerate people in the world and are always looking for an end seat at every table so we don’t keep bumping elbows with right handed people.
