Each year between July and October South Africa’s Northern Cape, normally a landscape of open plains and beige granite outcrops, bursts into brilliant life with the first rains of spring. Right now the bloom is in full swing, with over 4,000 different species coming to life in a dream-like carpet of color. The wildflowers of Namaqua can be found in Namaqualand National Park, located about five hours north of Cape Town, are the most famous, but blooms can also be seen in and around the towns of Garies, Springbok, Kamieskroon and Port Nolloth, as well as Richtersveld National Park, Goegap Nature Reserve, and Skilpad Wild Flower Reserve.
