With a little less than 2,000 square miles in the wilds of Botswana, Moremi Game Reserve is a lesser known spot on the Okavango Delta to get your nature fix as well as see big game animals. Spectators of the park can admire a wide range of species like elephants, lions, leopards, cape buffalo, cheetah, hippos, giraffe and black rhinos. Local bushmen still reside in the reserve and visitors are permitted at times to visit them. But before you go, do your research to find the best accommodation to turn your safari trip into an unforgettable adventure where you’ll be pampered like royalty. We’ve narrowed down to some of the best game lodges in or adjacent to the reserve. Here are the top safari lodges of Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.
Mombo Camp
You can get your 5-star treatment in the heart of this game reserve at Mombo Camp that’s operated by Wilderness Safaris. The camp is newly built and is known as the most glitzy accommodation you can find in the area. While there, guests get to stay in enormous luxury tents that feel like a honeymoon suite at a hotel. The location is a huge plus since its on the plains where there’s enormous concentration of animals traveling through, giving guests a spectacular view from the comforts of their luxury guest rooms. The tents are elevated, meaning the view of the animals are much better and guests are more protected. Expect luxury touches like outdoor rain showers, copper bathtubs, and a swanky restaurant serving high-end cuisine with South African wine.
Tuskers Bush Camp
Stay in this intimate luxury camp where there’s only six Meru-style tents available per night. The safari tents at Tuskers Bush Camp are designed to make visitors feel as if they’re visiting during the Colonial times with all the modern amenities. During meals, visitors can gather outside around the fire to eat an authentic African bush meal while enjoying the open plains of grazing giraffes and elephants. Although the camp isn’t technically in Moremi Game Reserve, it’s immediately right outside and is easily accessible for guests to visit the game reserve. The camp has its own private watering holes, meaning you’ll get a fantastic view of the animals who pay a visit. Safari rides will take its guests to Moremi Game Reserve to explore the wide array of animals in the morning and night time.
Machaba Camp
Find your home away from home in the Okavango Delta at Machaba Camp. Machaba Safaris own several campsites throughout Botswana and Zimbabwe, but its location by Moremi Game Reserve is among the most popular, thanks to its wonderfully decorated luxury tents that make guests feel as if they’re visiting a friend instead of a hotel. The decor is inspired from the 1950s with safari elements. There are a total of 10 tents per night including two larger family-size tents. Guests can take advantage of the activities offered by the camp such as morning and night game drives, canoe trips, walking tours and a luxury pool with incredible views of nearby game animals like baboons and elephants.
Chief’s Camp
Get your rustic meets luxury experience at Sanctuary Retreat’s own Chief’s Camp in the game reserve. The lodge was recently renovated to give it a fresh and new look full of rich, dark wood interiors, modern furnishing, and wildlife motifs throughout the facility. Guests are invited to its main building to dine out on its patio to enjoy breakfast while admiring the view of the animals. Activities include game drives, Mokoko excursions (canoe trip with a local guide), helicopter rides over Moremi Game Reserve, and an open-air spa.
Hyena Pan
Right outside of Moremi Game Reserve is the newly built Hyena Pan by Natural Selections Safaris. The lodge’s name is well deserved due to nearby hyenas that are known to hang out in the area along with leopards and elephants. The campsite has elevated tents and decks with incredible views of the animals and open plains. Inside, guests particularly enjoy the traditional African decor. Don’t miss the fabulous outdoor dining and lounge area that stretches out to the watering hole, having you enjoy meals right next to the game animals. Game drives will take guests along the Khwai River and into Moremi Game Reserve.
