Inhambane, one of the most beautiful provinces in Mozambique, encompasses many of the most popular beach areas in the country, including Tofo, Vilankulos, and Bazaruto Island. Though it’s tempting to just lounge on a beach and do nothing while you’re here, anyone visiting this stunning utopia should make a checklist of things they want to see and do: Here the seafood is plentiful, the diving is second-to-none, and the wildlife incomparable.
With this in mind, here are six suggestions for what to do and see when you are in Inhambane, Mozambique.
Eat at the Green Turtle in Praia da Barra
The Green Turtle is a pub and restaurant situated on the beach near Bay View Lodge in Praia da Barra (about 14 km from Tofo Beach). The establishment is operated by a French couple who prepare a delightful daily menu specialising in succulent seafood. The Green Turtle has become a favourite amongst locals, who have adopted the couple as their own. The sumptuous cuisine is worth sampling, and can be enjoyed throughout the day while staring out at the vast, gorgeous sea.
Horseback Riding with Cavalheiros Do Tofo
If you are travelling to Inhambane with your partner, there are few things as romantic as riding a horse on a stunning beach with that special someone. The horseback riding tours guided by passionate locals take place on Tofo Beach. This is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of the coastline, and the horses themselves are majestic creatures.
Snorkel at Castelo do Mar
Explore the gorgeous Indian Ocean by snorkelling amongst the coral reefs in Castelo do Mar, and experience the variety of fish and marine life just below the surface of the stunning turquoise ocean. An investment in an under-water camera will provide incredible memories which would be difficult to recount in wonderful detail without photographic evidence.
Enjoy the private beach at Massinga Beach Lodge
There are few things as exclusive and luxurious as a private and secluded stretch of stunning white beach which is reserved for you as a guest of this wonderful lodge. Pack your swimwear and head to the beach, as you will find that comfort and luxury on a private beach takes a holiday to another level.
Bird Watch at Flamingo Bay
This unique water lodge is named after the many flamingos that live in the lagoon around the accommodation. Bird watchers will be in awe of the various species that make their home in this paradise, while the flamingo itself is a stunning sight to behold. Have your binoculars at the ready, and get closer to nature at this beautiful spot.
Shop at Machilla Magic
Whether you are looking for a souvenir of your Mozambican stay, or gifts for loved ones back home, shopping for trinkets at Machilla Magic in Vilanculos is a good call.
