Get Your Drink On At The 2016 Stellenbosch Wine Festival

Travelers and locals alike are getting excited in anticipation of the annual Stellenbosch Wine Festival, which is less than two weeks away. The 2016 festival takes place from February 5-7 at the Coetzenburg Sports Grounds.

The three-day celebration of South African food and drink features hundreds of the best Stellenbosch wines, from small boutiques to large, award-winning wineries. There will also be plenty of gourmet food to indulge in from the area’s top restaurants, along with live music, and numerous outdoor activities.

Some of the top exhibitors include Audacia Wines, Bartinney Private Cellar, The High Road, Ernie Els Wines, Spier, and more.

Here’s a roundup of the main events happening during the festival:

Main Expo (Feb 5-7): This is the primary event of the festival, where guests can visit booths from 148 different wineries and learn about the culture and history of the area’s five sub-regions. There will also be live music every day, a grape-stomping ground, barrel rolling competitions and a children’s play area.

Grape Golf Challenge (Feb 4): Momentum, one of festival’s sponsors, is hosting a four-ball challenge the day before the festival with a field of up to 100 players at De Zalze Golf Estate. For every tee shot that stays on the green, Momentum will donate R200 to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival Foundation.

Pick n Pay Woman’s Walk (Feb 6): The Pick n Pay Woman’s Walk is a 5km family walk that raises funds for PinkDrive, a public benefit organisation that offers free breast cancer education and screening throughout the country. There will be lucky draw prizes up for grabs as well as a prize for the best-dressed walker. The gate opens at 07h00 and the walk beings at 08h00.

Momentum Grape MTB Ride (Feb 7): This family bike ride is for outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy the gorgeous Stellenbosch scenery. The race starts and finishes at the Coetzenburg Sports Grounds with a start time of 07h30.
