Get An Epic Thrill At These Top Bungee Jumping Spots In Africa

Adrenaline levels don’t get much higher than when you’re bungee jumping from over 100 meters up. If you’ve had bungee (or bungy) jumping on your bucket list for awhile, you might as well take on the challenge while you’re traveling across Africa — it just so happens that the continent has some of the most epic spots in the world to try it. From the Garden Route of South Africa to the Nile River in Uganda, here are the best places for bungee jumping in Africa.

Victoria Falls Bridge – Zambia and Zimbabwe

This is arguably the most scenic place in the world to go bungee jumping, and for good reason. The bridge spans the Batoka Gorge next to the gorgeous Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world. The drop is 111 meters and lasts about four seconds (but seems much longer when you’re doing it). If the thought of jumping alone is too scary, the site is equipped for tandem jumps as well. Costs for the jump are US$160 and can be booked through several tour operators, including Shear Water Victoria Falls.

Bloukrans Bridge – Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

Is 111 meters not high enough for you? Then you should definitely head to Bloukrans Bridge on South Africa’s Garden Route. The bridge is a whopping 216m high, and like Victoria Falls Bridge, is located in an incredibly scenic area. The bridge itself is the largest concrete arch bridge in the world, which for most is impressive in and of itself. If you aren’t up for the bungee jump, you can try the 200m Flying Fox (a cable slide that sends guests flying across the gorge below the bridge). To book, visit the Face Adrenalin website.

Orlando Towers – Soweto, South Africa

After a township tour, you’ll probably be in the mood to jump off a pair of old cooling towers, right? Well, regardless of your mood, you should take the time to bungee jump off the top of these historic towers for a view like no other. You’ll get a fantastic aerial view Soweto and see how large the township really is. The towers are 100m high, so you’ll be able to freefall for awhile before bouncing up from the bottom. You can also swing from the towers, or go inside and swing across the interior.

Nile River – Jinja, Uganda

Did you know that the Nile River flows all the way to Uganda? Not only can you see the river here, you can also bungee jump straight into it from high above. Nile High Bungee is 44m above the water and drops you close enough to the river so that you can touch it on the first bounce. To see what the experience is like, take a look at this video. Kings Kloof Bridge – Krugersdorp, South Africa

The Kings Kloof Bridge is another popular place to go bungee jumping just outside of Johannesburg. While it isn’t nearly as high as Bloukrans Bridge or Orlando Towers, the site allows adrenaline seekers to jump 50m off the top. There’s also a swing that takes you sailing through the air. Jumps cost R350 each, which is quite a bit cheaper than some other options. It’s also an easy drive from points in Johannesburg and can easily be done as a day trip.

Tana River – Kenya

Located in the small town of Sanga, the Tana River bridge is one of the best (and only) places to go bungee jumping in east Africa. It is located about an hour and a half north of Nairobi, making it a quick getaway from the city. You’ll jump off a 60m riverside tower which affords great views of the surrounding area.
