Get out your hot sauce and clear your schedule, the much anticipated Knysna Oyster Festival is about to kick off between July 3-12, 2015.
Crowds of people have been coming to slurp oysters since it began in 1983, and this year’s festival is sure to continue the fun.
The 10-day festival is one of South Africa’s most popular and is spread across two weekends, offering over 100 different events for people to participate in.
A majority of people are coming to watch the two major events, the Pick n Pay Cape Times Forest Marathon and the Argust Rotary Cycle Tour (a two-day event).
Other events include the Geo Oyster Geocaching Competition, the Navigation Drift Dive Challenge, the Night of 1,000 Pictures, and the Pick n Pay Fun Event for the disabled, the first of its kind at the festival.
Of course, there will also be plenty of food (and wine) on hand for people to try at numerous food events such as the Wade Bales Wine Festival, the Oyster and Wine Mardi Gras, and an oyster shucking competition.
And if that’s not enough to fill your tummy, there will also be oysters available throughout the festival grounds, including 30 local Tabasco ‘hotspots’ where you can eat them by the dozen.
Knysna is easily accessed by road and is located on the N2 between Cape Town (500 km) and Port Elizabeth (280 km).
