I visited Raith’s Gourmet Restaurant and German Deli in Garden Centre for the first time this month, and I was a little disappointed by the service and the food. Raith’s Gourmet has two branches in Cape Town, one in Constantia and one in Gardens Centre. I have heard great things about the full restaurant in Constantia and every one in Cape Town knowns the Raith’s is the one-stop shop for German Deli produce in the city. I was there later in the day than their usual clientele and found that all of their hot food looked unappetizing and the food that I did order was definitely not up to par with the wonderful things I’ve heard about them.

I ordered the Plate Of The Day which was traditional South African Bobotie served with mash and broccoli. Unfortunately the food was very unappealing and the Bobotie was very unpleasant and served in a very small portion. The mash was homemade and I really enjoyed the broccoli as well, but unfortunately the main part of the main meal was tasteless and not enjoyable at all.

I also ordered a ready-made Roast Beef and Cheese sandwich from the deli and found that the bread was dry and the cheese had gone hard. Compared to the other deli’s in Cape Town, I would not return to Raith’s unless I was looking for a German product that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Raith’s offers great value for money that is almost unbeatable in Cape Town but unfortunately the taste and quality is sacrificed and I wouldn’t want to eat there again.

I’m interested in visiting the Constantia restaurant that focuses more on service and meals than the Garden’s branch who seems to just specialize in being a deli!
