The Peermont Mondior Hotel at Emperors Palace is most definitely the place to be if you are looking for comfortable four-star accommodation and plenty of ways to spend your time in close proximity to the popular Johannesburg attraction.

Connected to Emperors Palace Casino and Entertainment complex, a long corridor from the hotel gives guests access to the cinema complex and vast number of shops and restaurants available. But before exploring the options in the vicinity of the hotel, I was pleased to discover a warm and friendly atmosphere at the Mondior itself.

A quick check-in allowed me to make my way up to my room, which was small but inviting, with the bathroom featuring both a bath and shower available for guests. The generosity continued with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gels which were provided in pleasantly generously containers, unlike many other establishments.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the elegant African theme of the room décor contributed to the warmth of the room, but a disappointingly small television screen, which resembled my computer monitor in size, ruined an otherwise positive first impression. The lack of an adequately sized TV was soon forgotten at the Silver Moon Bar in the lobby, which emitted a tranquil vibe and employed the services of a bartender with a wicked sense of humour and the ability to whip up an excellent cocktail.

The business centre on the ground floor provides an area for corporates and those on business to catch up on their work, though the location of this area alongside the bar is questionable. An impressive 500GB free Wi-Fi per device per day for guests stands out as a rare perk, especially considering the decent Internet speed available.

I enjoyed dinner at a restaurant at the Roman-themed Emperors Palace, but in the morning I was anxious to get in a good buffet breakfast at the Oriana Restaurant ahead of a long day. As a fan of chocolate milk, I was pleased to find it as an option at breakfast, but disappointed to see that there were no glasses available to pour it into. This was soon remedied by the friendly and accommodating staff. The food was good, and in fairly good supply, despite the fact that I stumbled in 20 minutes before breakfast service ceased for the day.

A very short distance from OR Tambo International Airport, the Mondior Hotel at Emperors Palace provided a pleasant experience overall, with efficient staff and a general amenities that one would expect from a hotel of this nature and rating. I would certainly venture back if I was in the area and in need of a place to rest for the night.
