Get a sneak peak of Phil Harwood’s five-month (mostly) solo canoe expedition down the majestic and often treacherous Congo River in this video, a trip that was sponsored by The Ted Simon Foundation.
Phil was the first person to make the “source-to-sea” descent of the 4700km Congo River in Central Africa, from the “true” source in northeastern Zambia. But it was not always smooth sailing.
While he marveled at the stunning beauty of the waterfalls and swamps he traversed, and encountered tremendous hospitality and kindness, he was also arrested, chased, and almost collapsed from malaria before finishing his epic trip.
Included in the glimpses of the journey are previously unexplored and unseen areas of the upper river. A full length DVD and book are available for purchase at Phil’s website.
